Brian Lattimer appointed professor in department of mechanical engineering
Brian Lattimer has been appointed professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. Lattimer will serve as part of the department’s energy engineering and science research focus area.
Lattimer’s research interests are in the areas of thermal fluid sciences, reacting flows and fire dynamics, material high temperature behavior, and firefighting automation, technology and suppression.
Prior to his appointment at Virginia Tech, Lattimer was vice president of research and development for Jensen Hughes. He has also served as a faculty member and adjunct faculty member for the department since 2007. From 2009-15 Lattimer, was the president of Fire Science Solutions, LLC.
Lattimer received his bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering; all from Virginia Tech in 1992, 1993, and 1996 respectively.
In 2015, Lattimer received the Harmathy Award for the Paper of the Year in Fire Technology Journal and is a two-time winner of the Bigglestone Award for Paper of the Year in Fire Technology Journal in 1999 and 2006.
